　　Energy from the sun warms the ground, and some of his heat is back into the air. As the warm air rises, it cools down. Places that are high above sea-level, such as mountains, have cooler weather than places lower down.

　　Energy from the sun warms the oceans, rivers and lakes, making some of the water rise into the sky. It rises to form clouds, and then falls back to the earth as rain, or snow. So places near the coast have wetter weather than islands.

　　You can know by the following experiments. First, please get ready a ball and a light bulb. The ball can be regarded as the earth and the light bulb is just like the sun. Hold the ball in one hand. Shine the light onto the middle of the ball. The circle of bright light at the center of the ball is similar to the sun’s light shining at the equator.

　　Now find out how the light is shining at the bottom of the ball. It is much wider and dark right at the bottom. This shows how the sun shines in the polar area.
