This year, the world has embarked on implementingthe ambitious and transformational 2030 Agendafor Sustainable Development. With its 17 universal, integrated and interdependent SustainableDevelopment Goals, the 2030 Agenda is an actionplan for people, planet, partnership and peace.

　　今年，世界各國開始執(zhí)行雄心勃勃、具有變革性的《2030年可持續(xù)發(fā)展議程》。《2030年議程》包含17項(xiàng)普遍、綜合、相互獨(dú)立的可持續(xù)發(fā)展目標(biāo)，是為人類、地球、伙伴關(guān)系及和平而制訂的行動(dòng)計(jì)劃。

　　Literacy stands at heart of the 2030 Agenda. It is afoundation for human rights, gender equality, and sustainable societies. It is essential to allour efforts to end extreme poverty and promote well-being for all people. That is why theSustainable Development Goals aim for universal access to quality education and learningopportunities throughout people's lives.

　　One of the targets of Sustainable Development Goal 4 is to ensure that all young peopleachieve literacy and numeracy and that a substantial proportion of adults who lack theseskills are given the opportunity to acquire them.

　　Fifty years ago, International Literacy Day was proclaimed to promote literacy as a tool toempower individuals, communities and societies. We have made significant progress over thepast five decades, but the world is still very far from universal literacy. And today, with theworld becoming increasingly digitized and information rich, new opportunities and challengesare emerging.
