Taking a panaromic overview of human history, we can conspicuously find that how to be a good leader has always been an issue of interest and concern among the general mass. Some people, especially the youngsters, claim that it is necessary for a leader to admit the bad decide made by them, while the elders may view the issue from a different angle, for the sake of maintaining the authority of leaders. As far as I am concerned, it is a wise move to admit the terrible decision for leaders, for the goodness of the leaders themselves and the whole team.
Initially, the leaders themselves will be a beneficiary of acknowledging the bad decisions made by them, because this practice can reflect the charisma of leaders. Just as an old proverb goes, to err is a man, which means that it is impossible for anyone, regardless his or her position or age, to make no mistakes. Undoubtedly, admitting the poor decision is never easy so that those who can face up to the bad decision are likely earn more trusts and understanding from the group members and thus can achieve further advances in career. On the contrary, insisting on the wrong decision and brazening on will make leaders lose his authority in front of team members, thus posing some obstacles to the career of leaders. Take the experience of my brother, an employee in an internet company, as an example. Last year, the CEO of my brother’s company recruited a young guy, Joe, to be the manager of marketing department. From the very beginning, the CEO was convinced that Joe was great for the business. As time went by, he was proven to be a terrible manager because he was irresponsible with company funds and had alienated nearly all of his peers on the senior team. Throughout, the CEO continued to support him and to refuse to listen to negative feedback about Joe. The sad ending of the story is that the CEO ended up losing his job, so did Joe.
In addition, leaders who acknowledge that they are heading on a wrong directions will set a good role model for the members of team, thus creating a positive vibe in the whole team. As is common sense, the behaviors and deeds of a leader have a profound impact on every member in a team. In other words, adimission of poor decision-making by leaders may encourage team members to face up to the mistaken decisions and quickly find a remedy for it, thus improving the work efficiency of the whole team. By contrast, if leaders tend to find endless excuses to explain the poor decision, the group members may follow suit. Gradually, the cohesiveness and competitivenss of the whole team will collapse at last.
In a nutshell, when making a wrong decision, the leaders should bravely acknowledge that they are heading on the wrong directions, which will benefit both the leaders and the whole team. (495words)
