想必近兩個月好多小伙伴都被米歇爾·奧巴馬挺希拉里的那段演講圈粉了，的確，這位美國歷史上的首位非洲裔第一夫人不光是位成功的政客和律師，也是一位非常杰出的演講者。

　　近日，米歇爾又在TED做了一次精彩的演講，懇請學生們以及全社會重視教育。英大為大家找來了帶雙語字幕的視頻，并奉上語言點解析：

　　The special relationship between the United States and the U.K. is based not only on the relationship between governments, but the common language and the values that we share.

　　美國和英國之間的特殊關系，不只是建立于政府間的往來，更建立在我們共同的語言和價值觀上。

　　Common最為人熟知的意義是“一般的，普通的”，其實它還被用來表達“在某個群體中共同的”，因此這里的common language不是“普通的語言”，而是“共用的語言”。

　　And I'm reminded of that by watching you all today.

　　看見你們就使我想到這一點。

　　許多中國人在用remind的時候，都只習慣用sb. reminds sb.的句型，因此講話的時候總覺得需要給remind找個發(fā)起者。其實地道的英語使用者經常會用米歇爾的這樣的句型，直接用被動語態(tài)。

　　During my visit I've been especially honored to meet some of Britan's most extraordinary women.

　　在我訪問期間，我特別榮幸地會見了英國一些最出色的女士。

　　Especially除了教科書上講的“尤其”這個意思，其實也和very一樣被用來表示“非�！薄ⅰ疤貏e”。

　　And although the circumstances of our lives may seem very distant, with me standing here as the First lady of the United States of America, and you, just getting through school.

　　雖然我們的現(xiàn)狀很不一樣，我作為美國第一夫人站在這里，而你們還正在上學。

　　distant在這里和different一樣，表示“不同的”。

　　with me在這里不是“和我”的意思，這里的with是用來在主句之外陳述一個與主句相關的事實。with sb./sth. doing sth. 或者with sb./sth. as sth.

　　And I was a product of a working-class community.

　　我出身于工人階級。

　　這里的product是引申義，并非“產品”，它被用來表示“出身于哪里”。比如你還可以說：I am a product of a loving family. (我來自一個充滿愛的家庭。)

　　And my mother was a stay-at-home mom.

　　我母親是個家庭婦女。

　　這是個非常實用的造詞法，只要用上短橫線，你能把任何句子或短語當形容詞來用。比如：I'm living this go-to-work-go-back-then-sleep life. (我的生活就是上班、下班、睡覺。)She is that kind of I'm-a-model woman. (她是個見人就說自己是個模特的女人。)

　　My dad was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the prime of his life.

　　我爸爸在壯年時被診斷出有多發(fā)性硬化癥。

　　prime的意思是“巔峰”，in the prime of one's life的意思是“在一個人最年富力強的時候”，也就是“在壯年”。

　　When girls from the very beginning of their lives are loved and nurtured by the people around them.

　　如果女孩們從生命伊始的時候開始就被身邊的人疼愛。

　　這里的very并非“非�！�，而是一種強調方式，可以理解為“就是那一個”。比如，beginning表示“開始”，而very beginning就表示“剛剛開始的那個點”。

　　What he said that all too often is that we accept the difference between those two ideas.

　　他常常講我們應該接受這兩者之間的不同。(視頻中這里的翻譯有誤。)

　　這里的all并不是“全部”的意思，它也是種強調方式，表示“非�！�。比如：This is all very nice. (這真的很不錯。)

　　The difference between a struggling family and a healthy one is often the presence of an empowered woman.

　　一個困難的家庭與一個健康的家庭之間的區(qū)別，通常就是有一個或幾個說話算數的女人。

　　Presence表示的是“這些女人存在”這樣一個事實。

　　And we need strong, smart, confident young women to stand up and take the reins.

　　我們需要堅強的、聰明的、自信的年輕女性站出來扭轉乾坤。

　　rein的意思是“韁繩”，take the reins的意思是“執(zhí)掌韁繩”，換句話說就是“控制方向”、“做領導者”。
