　　1. 探索家族歷史的直接動因是，在一個全球移民潮的大背景下，越來越多的人會遠(yuǎn)離家鄉(xiāng)，住在一個新的文化環(huán)境之下。舉例，在美國的亞洲移民后代會感覺他們和社會主流人群不一樣，這就催生了他們的好奇心，想搞清楚自己的家族起源和身世背景。 2. 這樣的做法同時帶來了好處和壞處。首先，這有利于人民搞清楚家族有沒有遺傳病，并盡早進(jìn)行防備和治療。第二，對于那些移民二代們，了解了自己的身世和來歷有利于他們找回自我肯定。 3. 當(dāng)然，這也有可能帶來麻煩。舉例，如果美國黑人一天過于癡迷祖先的歷史，他們就會發(fā)現(xiàn)他們的前輩們被白人奴役和折磨的血淚史。這樣一來，他們對于白人，甚至是整個社會的憤怒和敵意就會點燃，這就是俗稱的種族主義。

　　In the contemporary society, there is a tendency that more people have a desire to trace back their family history. Personally, I believe it is a natural response in an era of immigration, and its merits override the demerits. The main reason why people have a big motivation and curiosity in looking for the root of family is about the population movement in a deep globalization, which is called the thriving of immigration. For example, today, there are a large number of descendants of Asian migrators born and living in the America. In this society whose population mainly consists of white and black men, they gradually find that their physical characters like colors of skins, hairs and eyes are distinctive from their peers around. Such difference drives them to consciously explore their origins of family, for the purpose of answering their question of “who am I?”. The efforts of mapping out the family tree bring benefits and risks simultaneously. On the one hand, from medical point view, it helps us to be aware of certain medical conditions which are proven to be genetically-linked, for example, diabetes, asthma, obesity and various other diseases that run through the blood line. By understanding our genetic make-up, it provides us an opportunity for an early lifestyle intervention to mitigate the adverse effects of these diseases. In addition, the discovery of family history is an ideal means by which people, especially young migrators in an exotic environment can recover the self-identity and self-esteem. On the other hand, the main worrying aspect of this trend is about the racism. For example, if African-American citizens laid too much emphasis on tracing their clan origins, they would be irritated with the history of their ancestors who were enslaved and mistreated in the past centuries. Consequently, the social rebellions and conflicts between the black and white populations in the U.S would reoccur inevitably. In summary, the primary reason behind the phenomenon is personal desires of immigrants to seek self-identity, and generally speaking, this is a positive trend, which is applicable in the detection and prevention of hereditary diseases, as well as boosting self-esteem.(354字)
