Ⅱ.閱讀理解
A
My hometown in Florida is like something out of the movies—there are smiling people and kids riding bikes everywhere. Each morning,I’d walk to high school. The walk scared me because I had to leave before the sun was up,and walk past an empty parking lot (停車場).But after a few weeks that nervous feeling went away.
Then one day,I was walking along with my iPod on,when suddenly my headphones(耳機(jī)) were knocked off my head and a man threw his arm around my neck saying:“Just be quiet.”
I was being attacked, and this man’s arm was gripping (緊夾) onto me!I started screaming and tried to pull him off me,but failed. He was forcing me to walk toward the back of an auto repair shop and he just kept saying:“Be quiet.”
My mind froze with fear. Then I heard my great-grandmother’s voice in my head. She was saying:“Come on now,I know you’re stronger than that!” She was the rock in our family until she passed away four years ago.
I have never had any self-defense (自衛(wèi)) training, but I went for it—I let out a loud scream as I kicked my leg back into his shin (脛骨)!He let go of me and I ran off. When I looked back to see if he was chasing me,I saw that he was running in the opposite direction. Then I ran like crazy to a nearby drugstore.
I asked the girl at the counter for the phone and called my mom.She picked me up five minutes later and I explained what happened through sobs.“I’m calling the police!” she exclaimed. When we got home, two officers were waiting for us and I told them what had happened.
After my experience,I was afraid to do anything.Things slowly got better, but I still don’t like anyone getting near my neck.
The fear isn’t totally gone after all,the guy is still out there somewhere. But I have a new appreciation for my own strength.I never expected to be able to fight off an attacker.I’m stronger than I realized.

Tasting Morocco’s flavor
During the Christmas holidays I usually go to Scotland. My dad loves the mountains, lakes, and nature. So every year we visit the north of Scotland. However, last year we wanted some warm weather,so we went to Morocco instead.
I must stress that traveling is not as expensive as you may think. There are many budget airlines that offer deals throughout the year,so if you book in advance going abroad is sometimes cheaper than traveling within a country.
In the lead up to the Christmas holidays,we had typical British weather. There were weeks of grey, dull skies and not one day of sun.But on our first morning in Morocco, the deep blue sky seemed endless and the sun blazed(照耀) down with a light wind running through the air.How refreshing it was to be awake at last.
We stayed in Marrakech,a city that excites your senses.Sights, smells, tastes and sounds filled the air.The city was alive from morning till night;there was a never-ending buzz(喧鬧聲) from the street vendors (小販) and snake char-mers.The alleyways (小巷) that snaked out from the central square were like mazes made up of lanterns (燈籠) and spices (香料).The night was full of rich, fiery colors.
We traveled to many places around the city.We went to the base of the Atlas Mountains to see the cascades (瀑布),and we went to the seaside at Essaouira.Morocco is an amazing country with so much to offer in terms of landscape (風(fēng)景),culture and food.
On the subject of food,oh it was tasty!Kebabs(烤肉串),olives, oranges, breads—there are so many things for you to choose from.Morocco is famous for its mint tea too.The tea is sweet and strong with a powerful scent (味道).We indulged (沉醉于) in such delights morning, afternoon and night.
It was my first trip to North Africa. It is very much a region of the world that draws you in.The culture is so different to that of Europe, but there are still many similarities with Asia.Morocco is an interesting fusion (融合) of traditions and values that challenge previous perceptions(認(rèn)知).
