　　《四洲志》是由林則徐在廣州主持禁煙期間，為了解西方國(guó)家的歷史與現(xiàn)狀，主持編譯了英國(guó)人慕瑞所著的《世界地理大全》，經(jīng)潤(rùn)色和編輯，撰成《四洲志》一書。該書向清朝末年的中國(guó)人簡(jiǎn)要敘述了世界四大洲(亞洲、歐洲、非洲、美洲)30多個(gè)國(guó)家的地理、歷史和政治狀況，是近代中國(guó)第一部相對(duì)完整、比較系統(tǒng)的世界地理志書。后魏源受林氏所囑，以此為藍(lán)本，編著成《海國(guó)圖志》。林則徐也被后人稱為近代中國(guó)“開眼看世界的第一人”。

　　The Encyclopaedia of Geograp

　　The Encyclopaedia of Geography was compiled by Lin Zexu to learn more about the history and status of western countries during the process of opium banning in Guangzhou province. The author edited and translated the Encyclopaedia of Geography authored by a British, Hugh Murray, to complete the Encyclopaedia of Geograph after polishing. This book, briefly introducing to Chinese in the late Qing dynasty the geographies, histories and political status of the four continents in the world, is the first complete and systematic geography book in modern China. Afterwards, Wei Yuan, appointed by the author compiled it into the《Illustrated treatise on the Maritime Kingdom》by taking it as a blueprint. Lin Zexu was later known as “the first to open his eyes to see the world ” in modern China.
