　　The Northern Dynasties (386-581) is the general name of four dynasties in northern China at roughtly the same time with the Southern Dynasties, including several dynasties such as the Northern Wei, Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi and Northern Zhou. The appearance of the Northern Dynasties gave an end to nearly 150 years of wars in the central regions since the Upheaval of the Eight Princes in the Western Jin Dynasty. Both the following Sui and Tang Dynasties inherited the Northern Dynasties: the ancestors of the first emperor of the two dynasties were the nobles of the Northern Dynasties, and the two dynasties inherited the Northern Dynasties in all fields such as military and political systems and made further and better development and innovation of them.
