　　The Liao Dynasty (907-1125) was a feudal dynasty established by the Khitans in northern China. In 916, Yel ü Abaoji (Emperor Taizu of the Liao Dynasty) unified all the sects and proclaimed himself "Khan", with the state title "Khitan", and Linhuangfu as the capital. In 947, Emperor Taizong of Liao led the troops southwards and conquered the Later Jin Dynasty (one of the Five Dynasties) and changed the state title as "Liao" (renamed the "Great Liao" in 1066). In 1125, it was conquered by the Jin Dynasty. The broadest territory of the Liao Dynasty extended to the Sea of Japan in the east, the Altai Mountains in the west, the Ergun River and Da Hinggan Mountains in the north, and the Baigou River, south of Hebei Province in the south.
