　　The Gezhouba Hydro Dam is a large-scale hydropower station located along the Three Gorges section of the Yangtze River in China’s Hubei province. Its construction commenced in May, 1971 and was completed in December, 1988. The project, via comprehensive use of the water resources of the Yangtze River, boasts its functions of electricity generation, shipping, flood discharge and irrigation. The Gezhouba Dam, with railways, highways and sidewalks built, is not only an important water conservancy project, but also a bridge across the Yangtze River from north to south.
