The Hanging Temple
The Hanging Temple is on the cliff of the Cuiping peak on the west side of Golden Dragon Gorge of Mt. Heng in Shanxi province, above a river. It is called "the first temple in the air". The temple, finished in the 15th year of Tai He of the North Wei dynasty, is the only temple combining the thoughts of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism in China. The original name of the Hanging Temple is Profound Empty Pavilion, and was listed in the Times as "the Ten Unstable Buildings in the World". There is nearly 60-meter’s height between the temple and the earth, and the highest distance is 90 meters. It is often summarized with three adjectives: "Wonderful, Suspended and Skillful". The existing structure of the Hanging Temple is a renovation of relics from the Ming and Qing Dynasty.
