　　The Legend of The Mad Monk (Ji Gong) is a collection of folktales that evolved from the story of Daoji (1148-1209), an eminent Buddhist monk of the Southern Song Dynasty. The stories tell how Daoji, a seemingly eccentric monk who is actually the reincarnation of an Arhat, helps the poor and punishes the evil. These stories emerged over 800 years ago and have been popular nationwide since the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The Legend of The Mad Monk was included in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2006.
