　　Xiang Language is also known as “Xiang Dialect” or “Hunan Language”. It belongs to the Sinitic Branch of Sino-Tibetan Languages, and is the main language used by the native Xiang populace living in Xiang River Basin and its offshoots. Modern Xiang speakers are distributed across a large area of Hunan Province such as Changsha, Zhuzhou, Xiangtan, Yueyang, Yiyang, Loudi, Hengyang, Shaoyang, and Yongzhou. The 2010 statistics show the number of Xiang speakers to be approximately 45 million. This accounts for roughly 4% of the Han people, making it the 33rd most-spoken language worldwide.
