　　The Hui people’s folk instrumental music gradually developed from ancient instruments in Ningxia and the instruments in the northwestern frontiers of China. It is used to record and remember the lives and cultural activities from ancient times. The most representative instruments are the mimi’er, kouxian, and ox-head xun. The Ningxia Hui people’s instruments require unique performance techniques, manufacturing procedures, and methods of accompaniment. The Hui people’s folk instrumental music was included in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2006.
