　　Guan Hanqing (1219-1301) was the playwright to pioneer drama in the Yuan Dynasty. He is known as one of the “four major masters of Yuan opera” alongside Bai Pu, Ma Zhiyuan, and Zheng Guangzu. His dramas feature strong realism and an accurate portrayal of life’s struggles. There exist 18 Yuan dramas, amongst which Injustice to Dou E is the most famous. His sanqu features rich and colorful content, clear and vigorous style, and a high artistic value. He is honored today as the "saint of qu".
