　　General History, as a work of historical theories in ancient China, is the representative work of Zhang Xuecheng (1738-1801), a famous scholar in the Qing Dynasty. This book consists of 8 chapters in total, including 5 volumes of inner chapter and 3 volumes of outer chapters. Published in the 12th year of Emperor Daoguang (1832), it proposed new viewpoints to write the history and a unique historical theoretical system. Together with A Survey on History authored by Liu Zhiji in the Tang Dynasty, theyare deemed as two important historical theoretical works in the Chinese ancient historical theory.
