　　The Old History of Five Dynasties, originally known as The History of Five Dynasties, also known as The History of Liang, Tang, Jin, Han and Zhou, is the official historical book compiled by Xue Juzheng, et. al under the decree of Emperor Taizu of Song. With complete historical materials for reference, the book has real records of all dynasties during the Five Dynasties Period; from 907AD when Zhu Wen replaced the Tang Dynasty as the new emperor, to 960AD when the Northern Song Dynasty was established, there were successively five dynasties—the Later Liang, Later Tang, Later Jin, Later Han and Late Zhou Dynasties together with 10 states—Wu, Southern Tang, Wu Yue, Chu, Southern Han, Former Shu, Later Shu, Southern Ping and Northern Han as well as regimes established by the ethnic minorities—Khitan, Tubo, Bohai, Tangut, Nanzhao, Yutian and Dongdan, which are habitually known as "Five Dynasties and Ten States" and recorded in this book.
