　　The military examination system was designed to screen for talented individuals in the military. It was first implemented by Wu Zetian in 702 AD and included tests with the arrow, bow, stone, etc. It later evolved during the Song and Ming Dynasties and was renamed "military subject" during the Qing Dynasty. There have been about 500 military examinations in Chinese history. Compared with academic examinations, the military examination was not valued and was cancelled and restored time after time.
