　　The Old Democratic Revolution refers to historical events from the outbreak of the Opium War in 1840 to the "May Fourth Movement" of 1919. It can be generally be divided into the following stages: the peasant revolution represented by the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and Boxer Rebellion (1840-1901) and the bourgeois-democratic revolution (1901-1919). The Old Democratic Revolution was led by the capitalism class with a goal of establishing a capitalist society and autocracy. They opposed foreign aggression and the domestic feudal system. The Old Democratic Revolution is segmented into six major movements that form a cross-section of historical trends.
