　　The United Front is an alliance of different groups working towards the same goals. Its meaning and role vary over time. When Mao Zedong first put forward the theory of united front in his famous 1935 essay "On Tactics Against Japanese Imperialism", what he referred to was the National United Front against Japanese Aggression. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the new united front refers to the widest patriotic united front including compatriots from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and overseas under the leadership of the Communist Party of China and supported by all the working people of the socialist society, patriots in favor of socialism, and patriots in favor of the unification of China.
