　　Macao (also called Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China is an island off the southeastern coast of China. From 1553, the Portuguese occupied Macao until December 20th, 1999 when the Chinese government resumed the exercise of sovereignty over the island. Macao practices a capitalist system, and is an international free port with advanced industry, tourism, hotels, and casinos. The island features a high population density. On July 15th, 2005, Macao was added to the UN World Cultural Heritage list.
