　　The Chinese zither The Chinese zither (also known as the yaoqin, yuqin, sitong, and seven-stringed zither) is the earliest plucked stringed instrument of China with a history of over 3,000 years. With 7 strings and 13 emblems on its body, it was used for rites and ceremonies in ancient times. The Chinese zither features broad range, deep tone, and a profound lingering sound. The Chinese zither is the loftiest musical instrument of Chinese culture. Since ancient times, “qin” referred specifically to the Chinese zither until the introduction of western piano which caused its renaming. Ranking top among the four arts of Chinese traditional culture, it is deemed to be a representation of elegance. Besides, it was also used to accompany scholars’ singing, and has long been necessary knowledge and obligatory course for many scholars in ancient China.
