　　The lunar calendar is the traditional Chinese calendar, and indicates both the moon phase and time of solar year. The change cycle is based around the cycle of the moon, with one cycle representing a calendar month (the synodic month). A solar year defines the length of one calendar year, and is matched by use of a leap month. The year during which the Yellow Emperor ascended to the throne is the first year of the lunar calendar—predating the Christian calendar by 2697 years. There are 12 months of 354 or 355 days in a typical lunar year, and 13 months in a leap lunar year. Traditional festivals based on the lunar calendar are common across various regions and minorities of China. In modern times, most countries and nationalities of China celebrate traditional lunar festivals such as Spring Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, Chinese Valentine’s Day, and many more.
