　　已是華燈照綺筵，

　　漸添奇巧斗新懸。

　　明月似嫌芳景速，

　　不輕圓。

　　佳節(jié)最憐前一日，

　　舊歡長(zhǎng)算幾何年。

　　可惜金吾猶禁夜，

　　促游鞭。

　　Xu Can

　　They’ve used decorated lanterns to light up damask seats;

　　Now wondrous touches are added, new hangings rival one another.

　　The bright moon seems averse to the lovely sights’ haste,

　　And doesn’t readily round.

　　I love best the day before a festival,

　　Often reckoning how long past happiness did last.

　　Too bad the capital guards still enforce curfew,

　　Urging back the roving whips.

　　1. The fourteenth day of the first month of the year is the eve of the Lantern Festival, held on the first full moon after the New Year.
