　　原油一般發(fā)現(xiàn)地下之深處，只通過(guò)對(duì)地表面的研究是不能確定油的存在的。因此必須進(jìn)行地下巖石結(jié)構(gòu)的地質(zhì)勘測(cè)。如果認(rèn)為某地區(qū)的巖石中有油，就架起鉆井機(jī)。鉆井機(jī)最顯目的部分是稱之為起重機(jī)的高塔。鉆孔后放下管道，起重機(jī)就是用來(lái)起吊一節(jié)節(jié)管道的。鉆井時(shí)，將鋼管壓進(jìn)孔道，既能防止四壁向內(nèi)塌陷，又能防止水灌進(jìn)孔道。一旦發(fā)現(xiàn)了油，油管的頂端就牢牢地套上一個(gè)蓋子，這樣油便通過(guò)一系列的閥門源源不斷地噴出來(lái)。

　　As oil is found deep in the ground, its presence cannot be determined by a study of the surface. Consequently, a geological survey of the underground rock structure must be carried out. If it is thought that the rocks in a certain area contain oil, a drilling-rig is assembled. The most obvious part of a drilling-rig is a tall tower which is called a derrick. The derrick is used to lift sections of pipe, which are lowered into the hole made by the drill. As the hole is being drilled, a steel pipe is pushed down to prevent the sides from falling in and to stop water filling the hole. If oil is struck, a cover is firmly fixed to the top of the pipe and the oil is allowed to escape through a series of vales.
