那“遠(yuǎn)程辦公、在家辦公”為什么是work from home，而不是work at home呢?

3. remote working表示“遠(yuǎn)程辦公”，它的動詞表達(dá)是work remotely。比如金融時報例句：
It is hard to be a doctor, bank manager or chef who works remotely.
醫(yī)生、銀行經(jīng)理或廚師很難遠(yuǎn)程工作。
“遠(yuǎn)程工作者”就是remote workers

金融時報上有一篇文章寫到了為什么在美國西海岸越來越多的人選擇完全在家辦公，其中有一段話是這么說的：
Fully remote work tends to be targeted at millennials, which makes sense when you think about the size of their student loans and the cost of rent in cities with big job markets such as London, New York and San Francisco. Why wouldn’t they want to live somewhere else and cut out long commuting times while still earning a good salary?
百分百遠(yuǎn)程的工作往往是針對千禧一代的，如果考慮到他們的學(xué)生貸款規(guī)模以及倫敦、紐約和舊金山這些有大型就業(yè)市場的城市的租房成本，這就很合理了。他們怎么會不想要住在別的地方，節(jié)省長途通勤時間，同時又仍然賺取高薪呢?
對于個人來說，允許遠(yuǎn)程辦公的員工可以選擇在租金不那么高的地方工作，因此遠(yuǎn)程辦公同樣有利于員工節(jié)省租金(save money on rent)。
cut out long commuting times表示“節(jié)約/縮短通勤時間”。紐約時報上還有一篇文章講到了多倫多的城市設(shè)計：
It’s designed as a model neighborhood for the 21st century, with reduced pollution, shortened commutes, safer streets and better weather.
多倫多的設(shè)計堪稱21世紀(jì)典范。它污染少，通勤時間短，街道安全，而且氣候好。
因此，“節(jié)約/縮短通勤時間”還可以表示為shorten commutes，cut commutes。
It has weathered state funding cuts...
經(jīng)受住了國家經(jīng)費(fèi)削減政策的考驗(yàn)……

如金融時報例句：
Working from home in the online industry gives me the flexibility to do what I want.
在家遠(yuǎn)程工作令我可以自由做自己想做的事。
這句話可以改寫為：
Working from home in the online industry allows employees the flexibilityto do what they want。

“在家辦公”還有這個好處
那就是不被同事打擾
可以更好地專注工作
比如經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)人上的這句：
Telecommuters fall into two camps. Some slouch on the sofa watching daytime soaps, pausing occasionally to check their BlackBerrys. Most, however, do real work, undistracted by meetings and gasbag colleagues.
遠(yuǎn)程工作者分為兩種。一些遠(yuǎn)程工作者縮在沙發(fā)里看日間肥皂劇，偶爾停下來看看手機(jī)黑莓電子郵箱。而大多數(shù)人會認(rèn)真做工作，不被會議或廢話連篇的同事打擾分心。
“分為兩類”可以說... fall into two camps。它的同義表達(dá)是be divided into two camps;
daytime soaps就是我們常說的“日間肥皂劇”。單獨(dú)的“肥皂劇”可以說soaps，soap operas;
undistracted by的意思是“不被……干擾，不會因?yàn)椤中摹保叭菀追中牡膯T工”就可以說distracted workers。它的名詞形式是distractions，diversions，如：數(shù)字干擾digital distractions/diversions。

如金融時報例句：
Where start-ups leap at the chance to save cash on rent, jobs that are 100 per cent remote are fairly common.
初創(chuàng)企業(yè)急于抓住節(jié)省租金的機(jī)會，可以完全遠(yuǎn)程辦公的工作相當(dāng)普遍。
從這句話中我們可以學(xué)到，
leap at the chance是固定表達(dá)，意思是“抓住機(jī)會”。還可以說take the chance，take the opportunity;
save cash on rent表示“節(jié)省租金”，或者說save money on rent。不可以直接說save rent哈。save cash/money on ...的意思是節(jié)省在……上花的錢;
are fairly common也可以寫為have become commonplace。
“在家辦公”還可以增加工作滿意度，從而提高生產(chǎn)率，如外刊這句：
強(qiáng)化工作場所多元化，增加工作滿意度，從而提高生產(chǎn)率
increase diversity in the workplace, enhance job satisfaction and improve productivity.

比如金融時報上這句話：
Working from home can also ease some of the impracticalities of urban life.
在家辦公還可以緩解城市生活中的一些難處。
ease表示“緩解”之意。
比如在家辦公讓人們有時間：經(jīng)常做飯(cook dinner often)，定期運(yùn)動(exercise regularly)，享受周末(enjoy weekends)，并保持公寓整潔(keep the apartment clean)。
還比如減輕交通壓力reduce traffic jams，也可以說ease traffic jams。
“在家辦公”的不利方面

容易分心，降低工作效率
如金融時報一篇文章
在介紹彈性工作模式(flexible working或flexible working models)時有句話是這么說的：
Some employer resistance to flexible working can stem from a belief thatthe speed of completing a task will be affected if people are working away from the office.
一些雇主抵制彈性工作是出于這樣一種信念，即如果人們不在辦公室工作，完成任務(wù)的速度可能會受到影響。
其中resistance to表示“抵抗，抵制”，resistance to flexible working即“抵制彈性工作模式/制”。
“……基于怎樣一種信念”可以當(dāng)作一個固定句型來記，... can stem from a belief that。也可以說...be based on the belief that。
造成的結(jié)果就是：
The task will not be done as well or that continuity may be affected.
任務(wù)不會那么出色地完成，或者連續(xù)性受到影響。
換句話來說：
大多數(shù)人認(rèn)為在辦公室工作效率最高。
Most people believe that work can be done most productively from the office.
productively表示“富有成效地，效率高地”。

can make it harder to也可以說can make it more difficult to。
“在家辦公”還可能導(dǎo)致員工缺乏團(tuán)隊歸屬感。

“And for those away from the office, they may lose a sense of belonging to a team, or pick up resentment from colleagues because they are not physically present to manage unforeseen urgent issues. There is definitely a need for more in-house coaching to reflect this new way of working.”

從這段話中我們可以學(xué)到這些表達(dá)：
“those away from the office”也可以說“those working from home”;
“l(fā)ose a sense of belonging to a team”當(dāng)作固定表達(dá)來記，表示“失去團(tuán)隊歸屬感”;
pick up resentment from colleagues：引起同事嫉恨;
physically present：親自在場，在場;
in-house coaching：內(nèi)部培訓(xùn)�！皟�(nèi)部培訓(xùn)”還可以說trained in-house，internal training。
拓展：“在崗培訓(xùn)”可以說“on-the-spot” coaching。

如金融時報例句：
Some employers don’t realise they have health and safety obligations if staff are working from home, so they ideally need to conduct a safety risk assessment of home working spaces.
一些雇主沒有意識到，如果員工在家辦公，他們在健康和安全方面需要承擔(dān)一定的責(zé)任。因此，理想情況下他們需要為家里的工作區(qū)進(jìn)行一次安全風(fēng)險評估。
home working spaces表示“家里的工作區(qū)”;
have health and safety obligations表示“承擔(dān)一定的健康安全責(zé)任”，注意have的理解，責(zé)任一般搭配的動詞是“承擔(dān)”哈;
conduct a safety risk assessment當(dāng)作固定表達(dá)來記，意思是“進(jìn)行一次安全風(fēng)險評估”。
還比如，
Home working makes it more difficult to monitor an individual’s contribution to the team, especially if they are new.
在家辦公加大了監(jiān)督個人對團(tuán)隊貢獻(xiàn)的難度，特別是對新員工而言。
其中，makes it more difficult to同樣可以改寫為makes it harder to。
所以，想想要頻繁向老板匯報工作進(jìn)度以證明自己在工作也挺心累的：
頻繁向老板匯報工作進(jìn)度以證明自己在工作。
Many barrage their bosses with progress reports to prove they are on the job.
barrage這個詞的本意是“以密集火力攻擊(或阻擊)，連番轟炸”，barrage their bosses with progress reports按字面理解就是用進(jìn)度報告連番轟炸老板。
這里的意思是員工需要頻繁向老板匯報工作進(jìn)度，用詞很形象，大家可以學(xué)起來哈。

孤獨(dú)感
On the other, there is the problem of isolation and increasingly blurred boundaries between home and work that can feel unhealthy.
另一方面，也存在著孤獨(dú)的問題，而且家庭和工作之間的界限越來越模糊，會使人感覺不大健康。
There be sth中be單復(fù)數(shù)根據(jù)就近原則，這里靠近的是the problem of isolation，而不是boundaries，所以是is。
“increasingly blurred boundaries between home and work”可以當(dāng)作一個固定表達(dá)來記，意思是“家庭和工作間的界限越來越模糊”。
這個句型也可以改寫為The boundaries between ... and ... are becoming increasingly blurred.
所以“家庭和工作間的界限越來越模糊”這句單獨(dú)來說也可以寫為：
The boundaries between home and work/work-life boundaries are becoming increasingly blurred.
